Question by Derek: What should I look for in college such as majors if my interest is to be in the film business?
I am really struggling at knowing what I want to be and what i want to do in college. I don’t have a lot of time to think since it is my senior year in high school. And I know that film is not something smart to go into. But it is really the only interest I have. Is there something other than being a director/writer/producer like something in a business sense but also in film? Like a production company? And what majors should I look into?

Just look for things like Film, Digital Media, Business Media, Broadcasting, Video, and other key terms like that. There are a lot more options for film majors than most people realize, you just have to be willing to think outside the box. Also, being a Producer IS getting into the business side of film. You’d actually be delving quite deep into the business side of film as a Producer.
Also, don’t feel like you HAVE to go to a film school to get a reputable degree in film. There are plenty of non-film schools, as well, that have good departments offer quality educations in the area (I went to one of those). The most important thing to remember in the business is to network like crazy. Start with your professors, then go from there. Do a bare minimum of one internship while in college, or at the absolute latest immediately upon graduating from college, and always be sure to turn out quality work so you can build up a good, strong reel.
Feel free to message me if you have further questions, but I’ll warn you now I’m slow about responding, so if it’s super-important, mark it as such. I do always eventually respond, though. The character limit just sucks the life out of me when I’m trying to say what I want to say…
