Question by komshi: Which is better NYU Tisch or USC for film production?
I have been admitted to both universities and now don’t know which one to choose. :((
I really would like to live in NYC but I also understand that film center is LA and Hollywood. Also I have heard that USC program is more practical and hands on camera, in Tisch you don’t get to work with camera the first year.
Some advice would be really usefull.
Thank You

I attended NYU Tisch for Film/TV Production, but it was 1986-1989. The program may have changed a lot since then…
At that time, the first year of production was spent on 1 semester of still photography and 1 semester of Super 8 film. Again, don’t know what the current program is like.
Film production (hands-on making a movie) is just 1 aspect of NYU’s program. The other points of focus are (were) screenwriting and film criticism (watching great classic movies). If you think those things are important, then you may favor NYU.
But I just wanted to point out one advantage of NYU – you do get to shoot film in NYC, possibly the greatest place to make a movie.
Also, at NYU I learned that I was NOT cut out to be a director (everyone thinks so, but not everyone is) so in my junior year I was able to transition to other things, like producing and animation classes.
Today I’m an animation producer, so clearly I was led in the right direction.
