Looking for a good university to learn how to become a screenwriter or perhaps study something similar to this. Also, what are the job prospects for this profession, where are good places to get a job, and how much does it pay to start with?

Schools in S. California, plus NYU, have film-making programs. Very competitive to get into. Your best bet is to major in English/Literatrure, and take as many classes in film studies as you can. Some schools probably offer as a minor.
In any event, you’ll then have a degree that is more attractive to employers outside of the tv/movie industry.
Job prospects aren’t very good. . . Los Angeles is full of waiters and secretaries who are screenwriters (or actors. . .) You’d likely start at little or no pay (internships) to get to know the industry.
You’ll need an agent and/or industry connections to pitch a movie script. And you’ll need good industry connections just to get a decent agent. . .
