Question by Tony: Should I shoot a short film in the summer, or a feature film when the time is right, or both?
I’ve been wanting, for 4 years now, to shoot a short film, but have never gotten around to it ’cause I didn’t feel quite ready. I’m taking a Film Production class and a Screenwriting class this quarter, and I just bought a Canon HV30.
I originally took the Screenwriting class to improve my short film screenplay, but instead my instructor, at the end of the quarter, wants the first 10 pages of a feature-length screenplay. The entire Screenwriting course is a year, just the one I’m taking now is a quarter (it’s divided into 3 quarters).
Also, a local film festival is coming next year, but I fear that next year will be it’s last.
So, my question is:
Do I shoot a short film during the summer (like I’ve been trying to do for 4 years) and possibly make it into next year’s film festival, or wait to shoot a feature film in the spring and hope the film festival comes back in 2011?
or (I like this idea much better)
do both. do a short film as a comedy, and then a year later do the short-within-a-feature as a drama?
I already have a certificate in Digital Video (honorable mention), and took classes in public speaking (B), acting (A), and directing (B).
