Question by him: What are my chances of getting into Tisch (NYU)?
I really want to get into the film industry and study film at a good school, so I’ve been looking at NYU. What are my chance of getting in?
–3.5 GPA
–30 on ACT
–I’ve taken honors physics, honors algebra, honors geometry, honors algebra 2, honors pre-calc, and I’m taking AP calc and AP english this year. (I’m a senior)
–Taken 3 years of film classes with an A all 3 years (1 year studio production, 2 years adv. video)
–Top 25% in class
–Joined a few clubs
–Community service
–NHSI Film & Video Cherub (Northwestern summer program)
–Internship at post-production studio
–Piano tournament awards
–Achieved black belt with awards
–Video competition awards
–Staff of WDHS studio (our school studio)
–I’ve made many movies and I can provide them all in a portfolio.
–I’ve written a 70 page screenplay for video class
–Apply early decision
Thanks, this means a lot to me. Also, if anyone can mention any other good film schools out there (they don’t have to be as big as NYU) I would appreciate it.
Also, I have some of my videos put on Vimeo. You can check them out here:

Since I can’t see your portfolio/samples, I can’t tell you what your chances are. But based only on academics and on the amount of film-related work you’ve done, I think you really do stand a decent shot. Again, it will come down to your portfolio.
Look now at the portfolio requirements for the film program at Tisch, and start to evaluate your work in terms of what they require. For example, you probably won’t be able to, nor will you want to submit *all* of your movies. You will need to submit only those that you are given time for, and only your best work.
Other very strong film schools are UCLA and USCalifornia (USC). Those are the elite of the elite, with NYU.
Others that are very well respected include: Northwestern, Syracuse, UC Berkeley, UNC Chapel Hill, U Texas Austin, Florida State, and U Michigan Ann Arbor.
