Question by janjan: What are some good film making equipment?
I’m really interested in making short films and I’m always inspired to make them but I don’t have suitable equipment. The only video camera I have is the kind for making home videos and I don’t have mics.
I’m only a teenager so I can’t afford to get all the top-notch equipment but I want to get a good camera, mics, and proper lighting.
Can any experienced/amateur filmmakers suggest any good filmmaking equipment?

You can find a good used Panasonic DVX100 on Ebay for a good price, and many documentary and narrative filmmakers have commented highly upon its CineGamma settings and 24p capabilities.
You’ll also need a used shotgun mic and 25ft XLR mic cable for audio.
For lighting on a budget I’d go to Home Depot or other home-improvement store and purchase the metal clip lights that accept standard socket household lamps. If you get one with a ceramic socket you can use a lamp up to 500w in them, but be careful about the heat output and only use up to 3 of them on a household circuit.
Buy some basic lighting gels like frost or other diffusion and CTO and CTB to shift the colors of your lights to the correct situation (though the household lamp will already be correct if you’re shooting indoors at night.
