what college should i go for?

filmmaker jobs

Question by ilubIAG!!!: what college should i go for?
ok, i have a plan of what i want to do for the not-too-distant future, but from then on im not entirely sure…

of course, im going to go to college to finish my general ed, but idk what university would be best for my dream-career. i know i want to become a filmmaker, but i also know it takes YEAARRS of practice and experience to become a good one.

i was thinking of starting off with acting and then learning some of the stuff goin on within the movie-making process, behind the scenes, but in order to do that, i need to move to LA, not too far from home, but still pretty far enough to kno im just not ready for it 😛 i could maybe hold a part-time job at home and i’d still be going to college, i jst dnt kno what yet. and then i could transfer to a university in LA and be able to do the acting there as well…

in that time, im hoping i would make some good money; enough to probably buy my own laptop first to start writing. later i would try to start writing scripts, books, screenplays etc. so that maybe i could be selling my stories and try to experience or observe the director’s role of making movies. and there is where i lose my train of planning 😛

please tell me if this is a good start for me or if i should plan something else, anything helps 🙂
LA isnt really that far, i live in fresno, but the fact that im so far away from ppl that can actually help me is a bit scary D:

and i also have a sort-of backup plan: i was thinking of selling some tattoo designs on the side, just for some extra cash. i was also thinking of training to become a writer, a graphic novelist, or an actress (yea i am passionate for acting) idk, my options are vast 😛
hey, im really passionate about this film making and acting, who says its an adolescent fantasy when there’s thousands of really successful young ppl AND adults making billions of dollars a year?! i want to do something in film and nothing is going to change that. 😛

I’m going to film school too so I have looked into this a lot. First it would help to know where you live but I don’t think you should go in to acting and try to do film from there, it happens sometimes but I think it would be better to go to school for it and then start small jobs and work your way to bigger ones. Unless you are passionate about acting too, I just don’t think it’s a food way to do it, the movie business is competitive enough. I also wouldn’t go to school in California right away unless you live close but the competition is so much higher there I would say get tour bachelors somewhere else in the country and get your masters at a real film school in LA

hope this helps though it was pretty opinionated
also if you don’t mind Florida, full sail is a great school for film and you are garunteed work
