What kind of low budget movie can be made for $10,000-$12,000?

digital filmmaker

Question by platinum steve: What kind of low budget movie can be made for ,000-,000?
Im an aspiring filmmaker/screenwriter in NYC, i have plenty of unique high concept material but its all out of budget range. Yes I’ve tried the “traditional” route into the business & played every rule by the book you could think of. The traditiona way nowadays never works because REGARDLESS of whether your script is perfect or not, it will NOT get considered because a) you’re not solicited or b) your’s simply gets lost in the shuffle. It’s like trying to win the lotto. So now I’m going the indie digital-video route. I can afford to shoot something for $ 10-$ 12K but I dont know what kind of movie could be shot for that amount. Let’s see there can’t be any of the following:

Too many locales, stunts, public places, night exteriors, moving vehicles, heavy make up, SFX, firearms, animals, specific music, or children..

Wow, there’s not much of a movie left to make there huh. Better off shooting a 90 min film about your uncle taking a poop. (read below for the rest, ran out of space…)
I’m finding this very frustrating to do. All the low budget concepts have been done already. Night of the Living Dead would be perfect to do today (that is if the zombie craze wasn’t going on right now), but like I said they’ve all been taken. Even Blair Witch (which sucked but still raked in $ 200 Million). I gotta admit this reminds me of when I was in high school, I went to a performing arts high school and they had a “stage”playwriting class however I only had experience and knowledge for writing “screen”plays. So I did my best and the things I came up with and wrote were great but everything I ended up writing for the class just couldn’t be done on the stage, I’m talking about stuff that doesnt involve SFX mind you. By the way, all the stage plays they did at this school SUCKED, it was all asinine comedic garbage nothing was EVER serious. (final words below…)
But sweet Jesus, trying to come up with a good concept for a low budget “movie” is just as bad as trying to come up with a good concept for a stage play. Don’t people realize that low budget concepts are limited and it is very hard to avoid shooting something for $ 12,000 that hasn’t been done already as opposed to shooting unique horror or political movie concept which would end up costing WAY more than $ 12K. This is my dream man and nobody wants to give me a chance. Whats the world expect me to do? Forget about it and die or do something I’m not happy with doing for the rest of my life?
