Question by a-nerd: where can I find inexpensive technology that can do green screen and/or edit live?
The new video editing teacher at my high school wants to film the announcements (to be shown at the beginning of the last class of the day), and have her class edit them as though they would be shown live, like a real news report, with a green screen that she has(I think she inherited it from her predecessor, who didn’t use it). She asked me to research how she can do that, mainly because I was in that class last year when her predecessor taught. I did not know how to do what she wanted to do because the teacher who taught the class last year edited them after filming and used a boring background instead of a green screen.
This was about a month ago, and I have come up with nothing(mainly because i have had little time).
She has a bunch of macs with Final Cut Pro on them. She also has 3 of Windows XP computers that the school owns, plus the one that she uses to enter grades.
Can Final Cut Pro do Green Screen and live edits? If so, where can the teacher and I find some sort of tutorial on how to do so? If not, where can I find a program that can edit live and use a green screen?
One more thing: the teacher wants to use a teleprompter, and understands that it is a simple (usually one-way) mirror reflecting words from an up-facing monitor, which is usually backwards. Where can I find a program that(possibly using a computer’s graphics card) can make a computer’s monitor appear backwards unless pointed to a mirror, and is it cost-efficient? I guess it could just be a simple text file reader that shows the words backwards and can go full-screen. Thanks in advance!

Final Cut Pro can do greenscreen, also known as chroma key. Look in the effects menu for keys and chroma key or green/blue key. If you want better results you can buy plug-ins, but you will likely be ok using the FCP keyer. If you need a tutorial Youtube is a great place to look.
