Question by Tyler F: Why is the Air Force a member of a conference, but the Army and Navy are not?
I’m talking about NCAA football, FBS. The Army and Navy are both Independent programs because they do not need the financial backing of a major conference. The Air Force, I would think, should be in the same situation. But they are a member of the Mountain West Conference. Just curious why they chose to join a major conference while the other two service academies did not.

Because they wanted to join one and the others didn’t. Just because they are all military doesn’t mean the actual academy is run by the same people.
